Top 10 Reasons Why Norway is the Ultimate Family Adventure Destination

Norway offers more than just fun theme parks and kid-friendly museums — it’s a natural playground filled with breathtaking landscapes and exciting outdoor adventures. With cool summer temperatures, affordable travel options, and generous hotel breakfasts, Norway is the perfect destination for an unforgettable family holiday.

Norway.

So why Norway?

There are many reasons to go: Stunning nature, exciting adventures, cool summer temperatures that let you stay active all day — and right now, Norway is far more affordable due to the positive currency exchange. Our hotels include a really nice breakfast too, so what are you waiting for? Come spend your summer holiday in Norway!

Top Things to Do:

1. Take a hike with your family

Norwegian kids start hiking as soon as they can walk! Begin with one of our many family-friendly trails, and level up as the kids grow. Try hikes like Gaustatoppen in Telemark, Keiservarden in Bodø, or Utladalen in the Sognefjord area. Norway’s highest mountain, Galdhøpiggen, is also accessible for most families from Juvasshytta. Take one of Norway´s many gondolas to the mountain top to get a head start on your hike.

2. Test your mountain bike skills!

Experience that tremendous sense of freedom you get from riding down the MTB trails. Whether you are a beginner og skilled rider, there is something for everyone. Trysil is one of Norway’s largest mountain bike destinations with plenty of trails, jumps and variations. You can also check out Hafjell Bike Park with more than 19 downhill trails and thrills or visit the Summer Park at Geilo with trails and plenty of fun for the whole family. On our website, you can find mountain bike venues all over Norway.
Bonus: Many of the bike venues are situated close to other sports facilities, like skateparks, high rope courses, via ferrata climbing areas, or kayak rentals, so lots to do for the whole family.

3. Zip it and climb!

Explore a wide range of family-friendly climbing options — from challenging mountains to various via ferrata routes, as well as indoor or artificial climbing walls, like for example the spectacular Over climbing tower in Lillesand in southern Norway. All over Norway, you’ll also find climbing parks with zip-lines and challenges for all ages. Don’t miss Scandinavia’s largest climbing park, Høyt & Lavt, in Vestfold.

4. Visit our fantastic white beaches

Forget overcrowded, burning hot beaches! While the water might be cooler (kids usually don´t care!), Norway offers plenty of space and breathtaking surroundings — whether you’re by the sea or at your own “private” lake. Norway has beaches all along the coast so you can easily find one near you.

5. Be a Viking for a day!

Visit a Viking center such as Lofotr in Lofoten, Midgard in Horten, or Njardarheimr in Gudvangen near Flåm. Learn about Viking life, sail a Viking ship, craft wooden trinkets, and discover how Norse legends shaped the land.

6. Lots to see for animal lovers

Kids love animals! In Norway’s zoos and wildlife parks, you can see native species like bears, wolves, and moose — for example, at Bjørneparken in Hallingdal. Dyreparken in Kristiansand has a beautiful park filled with animals native to Norway as well as species from all over the world. Visit elk parks, or join a guided wildlife safari to spot moose, musk oxen, eagles, and beavers. In Vesterålen and Troms, you can also go whale watching!

7. The midnight sun means way more fun!

Bedtime in Northern Norway is highly overrated as the sun doesn’t set in summer. This means it’s light all the time and families can paddle, picnic, fish, or play under the glowing midnight sky — a pretty awesome memory in the making.

8. Theme parks are always a scream!

Southern Norway is home to Dyreparken in Kristiansand — a unique zoo-and-theme-park combo with a water park that could entertain the family for days. They have their own pirate land and it’s just so much fun! After you walk the plank, head west to Kongeparken in Rogaland, or check out Tusenfryd near Oslo, Norway’s largest amusement park. Want something more magic? Explore trolls and Norwegian folklore at Hunderfossen Family Park in Lillehammer.

9. Museums that kids love

Norway’s science museums are full of hands-on activities, climbing walls, and VR zones. The Technical museum in Oslo will keep the kids active and engaged for hours. If you have small dinosaur experts in the family, head on over to The Natural History Museum where you will find super-cool zoology and geology exhibitions. Many major art museums also have kid-friendly programs — like the world-famous MUNCH museum in Oslo. Outside Oslo, the Kistefos Sculpture Park is a top-notch cultural destination for curious families.

10. Try cabin-living this summer

Whether it’s traditional or quirky, rent a cabin in the mountains, by a fjord, or even in a tree! Take in the views, unplug, and enjoy cozy time together in nature. Plus, self-catering is great for the holiday budget.
