Which wines to drink at Christmas? A question that has no single answer. Much depends on the food you decide to bring to the table, but also on the personal taste and preferences of each of us.
The Matteucci family, owners of Villa a Tolli, welcomes us to its wine cellar today to present its wine selection for the 2022 holiday season. In such an amazing selection we can find the great Tuscan reds, of course, to warm up even the coldest day and accompany traditional Christmas dishes; but also, some oil to give an extra touch to recipes and dishes, and grappa to end the meal.
From Tuscany, wines for the holidays 2022
Villa a Tolli is a winery located in an ancient village in Tuscany, among the hills of the Val d’Orcia, where the Matteucci family makes wine in the traditional way. Entering the facility, one encounters the winemaking rooms and then those dedicated to aging, where bottles rest waiting to be ready to be uncorked.
“Among the wines to bring to the table at Christmas 2022, our advice is to include a red, especially if the menu includes first courses with meat sauces or roasts” they explain from the winery. “In our case, the choice falls on Brunello di Montalcino: a product that is loved for its intense ruby red color and a taste of great structure, soft and harmonious.
The winery also produces Rosso di Montalcino, which may be the perfect holiday wine, if you are looking for a fresh label with floral and fruity scents.
“Finally, a special mention goes to our Brunello di Montalcino Riserva,” they conclude from the winery. “The aging in Garbellotto’s Slavonian oak barrels for 4 and a half years gives it great structure and persistence, resulting, however, in a wine that is at the same time soft and harmonious. Perfect to be enjoyed in front of the fireplace or to uncork on a special occasion.”
Gifting a wine at Christmas? Why not?
There are those who choose to buy a wine for themselves and their family, and those who think of it as a different Christmas gift. “If you want to give a gift to a wine lover, a bottle of Brunello di Montalcino is certainly a welcome idea,” the winery explains. “It is one of the best-known Italian labels among reds and carries with it the soul and tradition of the authentic side of Tuscany.
