“For us, August is always a hectic month,” they tell us. “We continue to take reservations for winery visits and guided tastings of Brunello di Montalcino and at the same time, we are in the middle of the preparation of the upcoming harvest. Also for this reason, visiting a winery in August is a unique experience: those who come to visit us get to see with their own eyes the stages leading up to the harvest, and breathe-in this air of anticipation that we all experience.“

Those who book a vacation in Montalcino will have in mind, among the many things to do, a visit to the best wineries where Brunello is produced. A product that is inextricably linked to this land, made up of traditions and stories of passion, like that of Marco and his sister Lucia who, while still very young, decided to start Cantina Lazzeretti.
“Many people choose to book a wine tasting in Montalcino without knowing its origins or the steps that are needed to give life to a wine that is so complex and famous at the same time,” Marco continues. “That is why, to those who come to visit us, we also try to give little bit of us, of what is behind the bottle that they see. This implies a lot of experience, certainly, but also a desire to get involved, to learn, as well as a deep affection binding us to this territory and, in particular, to the vineyards, which my grandfather once cultivated.”
The wines of Cantina Lazzeretti
What wines produced in Montalcino by Cantina Lazzeretti are available for tasting? There are three labels to try: the Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. All come from the vineyards of Podere Canchi, on the slopes of Montalcino, in the midst of Val D’Orcia, a Unesco World Heritage.
- Rosso di Montalcino Lazzeretti. This is a young, pleasant wine, “but nervous” as they call it in the winery. Its deep ruby color with purplish highlights catches the eye, while floral and red fruit scents captivate the nose. Try it with appetizers of typically Tuscan cold cuts.
- Brunello di Montalcino. A tasting of Brunello di Montalcino is a journey through colors and scents. Cantina Lazzeretti’s iconic wine has a garnet color with ruby highlights and a rich and varied bouquet. Its pleasant softness contrstrated by lively acidity are unmistakable.
- Brunello di Montalcino Riserva. Among the best tastings of Montalcino, you cannot miss the Riserva. After spending 30 months in Slavonian oak barrels, Lazzeretti’s Riserva lets you appreciate its great structure and its warm, soft and harmonious taste.

While the tastings in the winery continue, the grapes in the vineyards continue to ripen and are almost ready to be harvested. “Depending on the vintage, we begin the harvest between September and the end of September” Marco and Lucia conclude. “It is a ritual that engages us all and symbolically represents the end of one phase and the beginning of another. A hard work, yes, but also a great satisfaction! We remain with our fingers crossed for these last weeks and trust in a good year“.
